My thoughts on Veganuary

So many people start the year wanting to eat more plant based food and they go searching for the most popular food bloggers. I admit that their photos of their food are amazing. But do you want to spend hours on decorating your food and going out to buy even more groceries?

As I've stated my blog and my food will never win any awards for best photo because that is the last thing I care about. What I do care about is using the food I already have and to cook meals I like. I do admit that my food storage is so much larger than it should be and that is why I've started my little challenge for myself.

Many sub out the fat they get from meats to another rich in fat alternative: avocados. Read up on avocado here. And subbing dairy for almonds are almost as bad. They are both delicious I have to admit and I do buy and use them but not that often. I can't even remember when I got almonds the last time but I am planning on using them in a recipe for a traditional dessert and by then it has been years from when I last got them. And getting avocado is a little bit more, like with 2-3 months apart.

And I've also seen so many vegan food bloggers is cooking "no oil". But our bodies need fat! Some nutrients we get from food are dissolved in water, others in fat. So don't cut out the fat. Just reduce it and find a better sours of fat. pssst... olives are not that great either. In Sweden we have rapeseed oil and sunflower oil. They are the best oils to fry foods in, not so great in dressings. You can of course go out and get olive oil and also use up what you have but do your best to limit. There are so many other types of oils too but you will have to look them up yourself and focus on who has the best environmental footprint.

So cook what you love and what you usually get for you and your family. And if you are new to eating plant based. Do get the vegan alternatives from what you eat now. Try a vegan sausage or burger. That is the easiest way of starting. Go on a Pinterest spree to get more inspiration! Discover the vast amount of dedicated food creators but remember - they should always be used as an inspiration for you - not for you to copy everything from. Use your own talent and use the recipes you find interesting.

So go out there in a new world. Full of new tastes and new experiences. And make them yours!
